This compendium of 18 papers attempts to examine the different aspects of sports psychology in India. Based on the summaries of the researches undertaken in the Punjabi University, Patiala, it discusses at length the disjunctive reaction time of the top level Indian sportsmen in relation to their extraversion, neuroticism and comparative anxiety.

Further making a comparative study of sportsmen and non-sportsmen with respect to their personality needs, adjustment and attitude, it deals with the performance of sportsmen as a function of some selected psychological variables, development of psycho-social profiles of Indian athletes, psycho-social variables of adolescent athletes, and the psychological characteristics of athletes and non-athletes at different levels of participation. It also makes a comparative study of cognitive abilities of high and low level Indian athletes, psychomotor abilities of athletes and non-athletes, and socio-psychological traits of champion and non-champion boxers.
