The lack of a reliable anthology on American Poetry was being acutely felt by both students and teachers of Graduate and Post Graduate courses in the colleges and universities of Assam. This book is intended to fill, to a certain extent, that lacuna in learning material.
We, the editor and the publishers, do not claim to have produced a learned tome to cater to the aspirations of scholars. It has been our humble effort to provide the teachers with the text of the poems of some representative American Poets and, in addition, to offer to the students a few crumbs of relevant information which hopefully, will serve as the first stepping stone to greater interest in this fascinating field.
